Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will be under immense pressure as he takes his stuttering side to The Madejski Stadium to take on Reading in a Monday night fixture of the Premier Leaguer after being unceremoniously dumped out of the League Cup by lowly Bradford City in midweek as they brace themselves for another trophy less season at the Emirates Stadium. The League Cup presented the best chance for Arsenal to end their seven year trophy drought with the heavyweights such as Manchester United and Manchester City as well as Tottenham Hotspur out of the competition but the way they performed against Bradford on Wednesday night, it will give nightmares for many years to come to Arsenal fans as they keep blasting the board of the club for not getting decent players on board.
Moreover, what will add even more humiliation to the wound of Arsenal is the fact that several Bradford City players have come out, stating how amazed they were to see exactly the poor condition of The Gunners and even mentioned Torquay United presented more of a threat to them than the once mighty Gunners.
With new summer signings Santi Cazorla, Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud still to settle at the club, Arsenal are struggling all ends up in the Premier League and the fact that they managed to reach the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League can be put down to the extreme lack of effort from their rivals in the group rather than their own good performances. Wenger’s future has been a source of speculation for months now and if Reading somehow upset the odds and get a result against the North London side, it will mean even more people will take to the streets, calling for the French manager to be sacked immediately, something that was unthinkable even a couple of seasons back.
Wenger has recently come out saying he rued the sales of Samir Nasri, Robin van Persie, Alex Song and Cesc Fabregas but it is his failure to get able replacements and make full use of the money from their sales that has made the fans extremely mad. However, the Frenchman is not someone who will bow down to their demands as he looks to get their season back on track with a win against the struggling side, a side they struggled to beat in the League Cup just one month back.
